Artificial Intelligence – With AI being one of the hottest buzzwords in recent computer science and graphics and the marvels of deep learning and artificial neural networks, the fascination and also the fears of man-made digital life get a huge revival in nowadays media and entertainment. Can they be friends and companions, equal to humans in all but a body made of flesh? Or can they pose a threat, like HAL 9000 from the iconic Kubrick movie “2001: A Space Odyssey”?

1st place by Andy Dominique Rakotomavo
This entry gets a definite place in the hall of fame of this competition. the eerie atmosphere of all elements, 3d, 2d and sound fit so good together that it makes our neck hairs stand up. congratulations!

2nd place by Mike Swanston

The comedy, subject and messaging in this piece are very nice! the shading and lighting are also top level. we’d like to see a bit better composition, the humans, whose shading feel a bit off, take too much space and attention from the main focal point. nice job though!

3rd place by Ian

Although this image might be not perfect on the technical side, we really like the atmosphere and the storytelling in this one (plus the cute characters). The characters feel alive and in terms of composition and lighting we don’t have much to complain about.
